The night before he is scheduled to start, Derek watches the movie, For Love of the Game. But not the whole movie - he only watches the scenes from the clubhouse speech to the opening pitch. He vows not to watch the entire movie until after he retires.
Animal Planet: In addition to his beloved boxer, Wrigley, Derek also has an assortment of cold-blooded lizards to keep him company.
Fits Like A Glove: The best Christmas present Derek ever got was a custom-made Wilson baseball glove his parents gave him in 1996 when he was 10-years-old. He used that glove for the next 12 years, before retiring “Old Faithful” in 2008.
High Voltage: His favorite entrance song is the Batman theme song
Change-Up: Although he is known as one of the game’s best left-handed pitchers, Derek does almost everything else right-handed, including playing a pretty mean game of golf.
D and D: It stands for the movie, Dumb and Dumber, not Dungeons and Dragons. It’s the movie Derek says he's watched more than any other and still revisits regularly. Rather fittingly, Derek had a non-speaking role in the sequel, Dumber and Dumber To, in which he got to sport a dashingly handsome orange tuxedo.
